I had lunch recently with one of my older friends. I asked him how he was doing and he said that he was fine, but that he was doing things a bit more slowly now. I asked how that was going and he said, "Actually, I kind of wish I'd started doing this quite a while ago."

And so, I wrote "Walk Slower." If you live your life at an allegro pace, you might be able to relate to this song that invites us to consider andante.

Lyrics

Walk Slower

Sometimes after dinner we’ll walk along the river
And talk about the path that lies ahead
Those walks feel like a race, with our watches setting the pace
‘Til finally we stagger into bed

I wonder what would happen if we said …

Walk slower, take my hand
Live gently, make a plan
To savour all the colours in your day
And tell yourself as you go on your way
Walk slower, walk slower
Walk slower some sweet day

Watching over children fresh from life’s beginning
Running through the trails and on the sand
They hardly have a worry but they’re still in a hurry
If I told them would they understand?

Walk slower, take my hand
Live gently, make a plan
To savour all the colours in your day
And tell yourself as you go on your way
Walk slower, walk slower
Walk slower some sweet day

As the time flys past, the strongest ones go fast
They leave the rest behind them in their wake
But throughout all of this, I wonder what I’d miss
If I told myself to slow these steps I take

And walk slower, take your hand
Live gently, make a plan
To savour all the colours in our day
And tell ourselves
As we head on our way

Walk slower, walk slower
Walk slower some sweet day
Walk slower, walk slower
Walk slower some sweet day
