A few years ago, my wife and I lived in London for a while. We were in the lovely area of Belsize Park. On a regular basis, we would ride the Underground into the heart of London.

Recently, Kevin Craib sent me an instrumental to see if there was a song in it. Kevin's music immediately took me back to the Northern Line of the Underground and our ride from Belsize down to Waterloo. And so we have "Belsize to Waterloo." We hope you enjoy the ride!

Lyrics

Belsize to Waterloo
(A Canadian Rides the Underground)

Another day in London Town
I hear it wakin’
I head down to the underground
It’s Belsize station

It’s a world of … anticipation

Of London’s daily highs and lows
It’s a city on the go
Doors opening don’t be slow

You won’t find an empty seat
Here so far below the street
Grab that strap and set your feet
It’s that driving London beat

Feel the jolt and here we go
One thousand people you don’t know
It’s a brilliant London show

Wheels grind, we’re slowing down
Another stop, it must be Camden Town
Old bricks so brown
Doors fly open, step aside
Fifty people end their ride
They’re gone
But we’ll stay on

Find another inch of space
Catch a glimpse of some new face
Do it all with quiet London grace

Leave the others to their day
Their thoughts are miles away
There’s not a single word to say

In a crowd, yet so alone
London buried in their phones
Hello, cheerio

But between stations underground
Why would this old train be slowing down?
Oh no …

Just when we think this train won’t work
We lurch away with a sudden jerk
Might be trouble on the line
Just keep it moving we’ll be fine

We’re still on time

Let’s get off at Waterloo
Seems a perfect thing to do
Hope the people let us through

Why not walk to Charing Cross?
There’s a chance we might get lost
But that’s perfectly okay
You know what people say
You’re never really lost
Here
In London

Please mind the gap between the platform and the train
