Experts tell us that the single best predictor of longevity in relationships is similarity—similarity of values, personality interests, and so on. There is a heap of evidence to support this. Still, differences can be very interesting. This song tells the story of two people who were very different and yet there was a definite spark. It all made for "A Different Love." (And, yes, that bit at the end is Morse Code. Seems to fit with the theme.)
Lyrics
A Different Love
You told me that you would change the world
Just wait and see, you were that kind of girl
I never doubted that you would do what you said you would do
And here’s the thing about me and you
It was a different love in a different time
You never thought we would fit
It was all so new I just fell for you
I never questioned it
It was a different love
The books you read
The people you knew
Some of the things you said
I didn’t have a clue
You called yourself Sandra
Was that even your name?
You could have called yourself anything
I’d have loved just you the same
It was a different love in a different time
We were so sure then
The songs we’d sing, we knew everything
Can you remember when?
I looked up to you
You kinda trusted me
Though I was young and scared
You were bold and free
It still amazes me
How much you cared
BREAK
When they showed up to question me
I guess I kinda went numb
They were decidedly unamused
They must have thought I played dumb
It was a different love
You opened my eyes
I opened your soul
Then the deception and lies
Finally took their toll
I know you had your reasons
For keeping me in the dark
But it took my breath away
When they came after you in the park
It was a different love in a different time
We were so sure then
The songs we’d sing, we knew everything
Can you remember when?
You went underground
Gone without a sound
That was when we lost touch
It still surprises me
How frightened I could be
I miss you so much
You were my different love
I saw your picture on the news last night
You were in some disguise
But there was no mistaking you
You had that fire in your eyes
You carried a sign
You sang our songs
Then you crossed a line
But you could never be wrong
I’d love to see you now
But I know that would be unwise
Every time I think of you
A little part of me dies
It was a different love in a different time
We were so sure then
The songs we’d sing, we knew everything
Do you remember when
It was a different love?
