  1. Miner Blues

This track comes from the archives. It was recorded at Burnaby's James Cowan Theatre in 1980. It features Chris Robinson on piano, Bruce Miekle on bass, Kevin Craib on electric guitar, and Rudy Pechaur on drums. We had some fun with this one!

Lyrics

Well I spend all day working down at the mine
God only knows what kind of things I’m gonna find
And there’s a rumble of the rock about twice a day
It’s enough to make a man fall on his trembling knees
And get right down and pray

I see the flicker of the candle telling me there’s air to breathe
I hear the final whistle and I thank God I can leave
But then there’s still tomorrow morning when I lose the light of day
I don’t know how far down I’m goin’ I just know that heaven is the other way

But there’s a smooth-skinned woman who waits for me at night
In my world of daily darkness she’s my only saving light
And I work hard to keep her happy with things worthy of her love
While I’m toiling down below I only think about her waiting arms above

But sometimes my aching back seems to have had its fill
I ask her if she wants me and she says she always will
You might be wondering how much her love is worth
Well it’s enough to make me drop myself a quarter of a mile into the earth

Well I’m thinking ‘bout our future as I crawl up from this hole
Gonna buy a house, get a plot of land and burn this lousy coal
But till then there’s still tomorrow morning when I lose the light of day
I don’t know how far down I’m goin’ I just know that heaven is the other way
The other way
